As part of LEAP’s 3-part IoT & AR webinar series covering how these new technologies will help business continuity in a post-COVID world, we offer here the highlights from our 2nd webinar on Using Augmented Reality for marketing, training & maintenance in a post-COVID world. If you haven’t yet caught up on the highlights from webinar session 1, Using IoT for remote monitoring of assets & operations in a post-COVID world you can also watch the IoT session here.
In this session, we start with a look at how digital transformation is becoming increasingly important as organisations turn to technological solutions to help keep remote workers connected, not just to their colleagues but also to their products and the customers they service.
Next, Allan provides a quick primer on ‘What is AR?‘, a technology has rapidly moved from being a novelty to becoming ubiquitous across many everyday apps used across our personal devices for social and entertainment purposes (think Snapchat filters and Pokemon Go). Learn how this same AR technology is also being harnessed for industry by PTC to solve a range of industrial problems:
In identifying the best way to implement AR technology for industry, PTC identified that a range of tools were required to meet industry requirements, depending on the capabilities required and expertise available within each company. Here, Allan introduces PTC’s suite of industrial AR tools, the Vuforia AR Enterprise Suite, which consists of 4 offerings each of which address a particular market need:
- Vuforia Engine: The most widely used computer vision software for custom AR applications
- Vuforia Studio: Drag and drop AR authoring that leverages existing 3D CAD and IoT data in an easy-to-use format for content creators
- Vuforia Chalk: Allow an expert to ‘see what I see’ and provide live annotation within a shared workspace for remote expert assistance
- Vuforia Expert Capture: Quickly capture and share expert knowledge to create powerful step-by-step AR instructions.
Next we take a deeper dive into each of these applications within the Vuforia AR Enterprise Suite, starting with Vuforia Engine – the world’s most widely deployed underlying AR technology. Vuforia engine, which allows users to deliver unique AR experiences, leverage advanced technology, reach the broadest possible audiences and build branded AR apps is the driving technology behind all of the applications within the Vuforia AR Enterprise Suite.
Vuforia Studio allows users to easily create rich AR content using existing 3D and IoT data. This advanced AR authoring and publishing tool allows content creators to bring together various information such as CAD data, IoT readings and traditional digital media to create a wide variety of custom AR experiences to help organisations share and interpret product design and manufacturing process data quickly and effectively.
Vuforia Chalk allows an expert to ‘see what I see’ in real time and annotate in a shared workspace to provide remote assistance. Vuforia chalk provides a simple, intuitive user experience requiring minimal training and set up and once in place, connects experienced staff with colleagues in remote locations to help guide them through complex processes to ensure the correct outcomes with minimal downtime.
And finally we introduce the exciting new technology in Vuforia Expert Capture which provides fast and easy knowledge capture, allowing you to rapidly create step-by-step guides and scale your manufacturing expertise throughout an organisation. The clip below is just a short teaser as Vuforia Expert Capture is the subject of the final webinar in this 3-part series.
