Digital Transformation for the Medical Device Industry (Part 3)

This article is the final instalment of our three-part series focusing on Digital Transformation for the Medical Device Industry where we take an in-depth look at how PTC solutions are helping medical device and life sciences companies with:

    • Regulatory and compliance management,
    • Quality (CAPA, audit, non-conformance),
    • Maintenance of the DHF/DMR,
    • Training, tracking and delivery,
    • Smart Factory initiatives,
    • Generative design and additive manufacturing,
    • Improving post-market surveillance.

In case you missed part 1 which covered PTC’s CAD solution, Creo, we have included the clip below in which Allan Thompson, PTC Technical Manager at LEAP Australia provides an overview of the challenges medical device and life science companies face related to quality, compliance and continuous performance improvement. Allan then goes on to explain the concept of the Digital Thread and how it pertains to the Digital Organisation – using technology to connect the products, people, places and processes within an organisation. Finally Allan explains how the Digital Thread can benefit MedTech manufacturers by addressing the core issues that these companies face, in turn improving efficiency, quality, reliability and time to market.

If you watched this introductory clip in part one of the series, please skip ahead to the next section covering PTC’s IoT platform, ThingWorx, and the following section on Augmented Reality, Vuforia.

In the next clip we take a look at ThingWorx, PTC’s portfolio of enterprise solutions for engineering, manufacturing and service built into a flexible industrial IoT platform. Allan explains how these IoT powered solutions can help MedTech companies to harness their existing data to improve processes across the organisation by:

    • Connecting previously disconnected assets across the organisation
    • Driving greater enterprise collaboration and efficiency
    • Enabling real-time visibility into asset performance and status
    • Providing a closed-loop digital solution for performance management
    • Driving Digital Transformation across the enterprise, and more.

Watch the clip below to learn more.

Finally, Allan dives into PTC’s Augmented Reality (AR) platform, Vuforia and explains how, when combined with IoT data, AR is being used to connect workers with critical information across the enterprise. Vuforia is a suite of applications that enables quick, easy authoring of AR experiences by utilising existing CAD data to create visuals that can be easily linked to the real world. This visual information can then be linked with real-world IoT data to provide real-time insights into operating information and status, provide step-by-step instructions for maintainence and repair and enable the capture and transfer of critical process knowledge for training and visual inspection purposes.

Watch the clip below to see how MedTech companies are benefitting from IoT powered AR to improve productivity, increase product quality and enrich the employee experience.

We trust you found part three of this three part series on Digital Transformation for the Medical Device Industry to be informative and relevant to your work. If you missed them, check out part one of the series which took a deep dive into Creo, PTC’s CAD modelling platform, and part two which explored PTC’s PLM and ALM solutions, built around Windchill
